Gong hears the call. Who tells you the deal is slipping?
Gong is built to capture and analyse conversations. SalesSynq is built to tell you which deals are at risk and let you check why. Most teams that have both use them for different jobs.
Gong records and analyses the conversation — what was said, by whom, on which call. SalesSynq watches the deal around the conversation and tells you which ones are slipping while you can still act. Connect Gong and its calls count as evidence; open any score and see exactly what it used.
Why did the deal die when the calls went so well?
Because the calls stopped being the story weeks before anyone noticed. The champion was still warm on the last recording. Then two meetings moved, the legal thread went quiet, and the second decision-maker never came back. Nothing on the transcript said any of that. You should not have to find out in the QBR.
The renewal goes quiet and nobody notices until it is gone. The forecast holds all quarter, then moves in the last two weeks. By the time either one shows up in a pipeline review, the week when somebody could still have fixed it has passed.
It can go the other way. Your team spends its week on the deals where the week still matters. Pipeline reviews stop being a guessing game. You keep the call intelligence you already trust, and you stop being surprised by the deals it was never watching.
What does each product do for you?
Two different jobs filed under the same category name. Conversation intelligence is built around what was said; SalesSynq is built around what is happening to the deal in between the calls.
What Gong is built to do for you
Capture the revenue conversation at scale — record and transcribe calls, take in email threads, and analyse what was said so managers can coach and your team can search its own history. Its published positioning is built around that captured conversation.
What SalesSynq is built to do for you
Catch the deal before it goes quiet. Every deal is scored against the evidence behind it — CRM history, who is still turning up to meetings, which threads went cold — and each one that needs a move comes back with the move attached.
Where they overlap
Both look at deal signal and both surface risk. The overlap is real but shallow: one is answering "what happened on this call", the other is answering "which of my forty deals is quietly dying, and what do I do on Monday".
Why teams end up with both
A great call is not a safe deal, and a silent month is not always a lost one. Gong tells you how the conversations went. SalesSynq tells you which deals the conversations stopped happening on — and reads your Gong calls as one of the sources it counts.
Everything described here about Gong comes from its own published material and describes how the product is built. Separately, the source-bound figures below are outcomes reported in selected vendor case studies, not a controlled performance comparison.
What does it take to get this running?
Three steps, and you can be through the first two before your next pipeline review. If you would rather not connect anything yet, upload a pipeline export instead and get the same picture from a file.
- 1
Connect your CRM
HubSpot, Zoho or Freshsales connect read-only in a few minutes. Add Gong with your own API key, plus calendars and mail, and the call record becomes part of the deal picture rather than a separate tab.
- 2
See what is actually at risk
Every open deal comes back scored against the evidence behind it. The deal where the calls sounded fine but the buying committee stopped showing up is near the top, with the reason attached.
- 3
Act while it still matters
Each deal that needs a move gets a specific one, with the evidence to take into the next conversation. Your rep walks in knowing which thread went cold and who stopped replying.
When the evidence is too thin, SalesSynq tells you it does not know instead of guessing — and shows you what it could not see.
Will this number survive a pipeline review?
That is the test that matters, and it is the difference worth caring about. When a rep tells you the score is wrong, you open it: the exact evidence SalesSynq used is saved next to the answer, and the answer can be worked out again on the spot. The meeting stops being an argument about a tool and goes back to being about the deal.
| Dimension | SalesSynq | Gong (conversation intelligence) |
|---|---|---|
| What it looks at first | The deal. CRM state and how it changed, who is still turning up to meetings, which threads went quiet, delivery and support pressure on the account. | The conversation. Recorded calls and transcripts are the centre of the product, with CRM and email context arranged around them. |
| What you get back | A Synq Score with the risk breakdown behind it, a quarter scenario you can defend, and a specific next move on the deals that need one. | Conversation analytics, deal and account views built from captured interactions, and coaching surfaces for managers. |
| How you check a score you disagree with | You open it. The exact evidence it used is saved next to the answer, and the answer can be worked out again in front of whoever is challenging it. | By jumping to the moment in the call or the thread the insight came from — an explanation of the answer rather than the answer being worked out again. |
| What happens when the evidence is thin | It says so. A part of the score with too little behind it returns no answer rather than a polite middle value. The publication threshold defaults to three trusted signals; a workspace can explicitly retain the legacy one-signal policy or disable that breadth gate. | Conversation platforms analyse what was captured, so a deal with few recorded calls simply has little to show. |
| What the AI is allowed to do | Write the sentence, never the decision. Every explanation is tied to the result it explains, and AI stays switched off until you turn it on, one workflow at a time. | AI is central to the experience — summarisation, topic and theme detection, and generated deal and call narratives. |
| Whether it can be pointed at your people | It cannot score or rank individual people. Aggregate reporting suppresses groups below five by default and can be configured no lower than two. | Rep coaching and individual conversation analytics are a designed and prominent part of the category. |
| What it changes in your CRM | Nothing, by default. SalesSynq reads; it does not write to your CRM records. Routing a task into a work tool is a separate permission you grant per tool, and it is refused until you do. | Deep CRM integration including field updates and activity logging is a standard part of conversation intelligence deployments. |
This table compares architecture and approach. Descriptions of other tools reflect their published design and are not performance or superiority comparisons.
You can check the Synq Score and the risk breakdown behind it against its own evidence — not every raw signal that fed the pipeline, and not early warnings. Seeing what the system used proves what it saw and decided; it does not prove what the deal was worth.
Can we run Gong and SalesSynq together?
Yes, and most teams should. Gong connects with your own API key — there is no platform app to provision — so recorded calls join the evidence SalesSynq already reads from your CRM, calendars, mail, help desk and delivery tools. Nothing flows back the other way: SalesSynq reads Gong and writes nothing into it.
The two answer different halves of the same question. Gong tells you how the conversation went. SalesSynq tells you which deals the conversations quietly stopped happening on, and hands your rep the next move while there is still a week to make it.
What does SalesSynq deliberately not do?
Four things, and none of them are gaps waiting for a roadmap. Each one keeps the product to a narrower job it can actually defend — which is why it sits beside a conversation platform rather than trying to replace one.
- Record, transcribe or search your calls. SalesSynq never captures call audio of its own — if you want that, keep the tool that does it.
- Coaching scorecards, talk-ratio analytics or rep leaderboards. Scoring named people is refused in the product itself, not discouraged in a policy document.
- Store or use model-derived emotion, sentiment, tone or personality from anyone’s communications. Those fields are discarded and rejected at the storage boundary.
- Change your CRM records — no field updates, no stage changes, no owner reassignment. Routing a task into a work tool is separate, opt-in per tool, and refused until you grant it.
